Up to half a million British teachers, university staff, train drivers and civil servants went on strike across the UK in the largest coordinated strike action for a decade on Wednesday, media reported.

About 300,000 teachers took part in the strike. The teachers’ strike led to more than half of schools in England partially or fully suspending classes.

As UK inflation rose more than 10 percent, the highest level in four decades, strikers are demanding above-inflation pay rises to cover rocketing food and energy bills.(Photos: Wang Yimo)
