The National Art Museum of China held its open day on Saturday, with director Wu Weishan leading audiences on a tour to visit its new exhibition in celebration of the museum's 60th anniversary.
The exhibition, titled "Beauty in the New Era," showcases the museum's classic collections and its dedication to preserving China's cultural traditions through exhibitions and research.
Nearly 600 artworks are on display at the museum, organized into four sections: "Ink Splendor and Cultural Context: Exhibition of Bada Shanren, Shi Tao, and Chinese Xieyi Art since the 20th Century," "A Tribute to the Classics: An Exhibition of Fine Arts from the Collection of NAMOC," "Majestic Baota Mountain and Yanhe River: Art Exhibition with Ode to the Spirit of the Long March and Spirit of Yan'an," and "Prosperity in Diversity: Collection of International Artworks from NAMOC (II)."
Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the NAMOC to develop itself into an art venue that enjoys national and even worldwide prestige on May 21 in a reply letter to veteran experts and artists of the NAMOC.
In his letter, Xi extended warm congratulations and sincere greetings to all members of the museum as it celebrates its 60th anniversary.
“The letter from Xi gave the direction for us to continue to do a good job in all aspects of work. We are willing to run a people’s art museum for the country, a national art museum for the people, and a Chinese art museum for the world, together with all beauty-loving people,” said Wu on Saturday.
