Editor's Note:
A group of 80 athletes and coaches from the Solomon Islands arrived in China in early July to begin a 90-day training at the Hongge Training Base and Miyi National Sports Training Base in Panzhihua, southwest China's Sichuan Province. They are preparing for the 2023 Pacific Games, which will be held in their country at the end of this year. These athletes were selected from 650 participants, and it is the largest team of athletes from the Solomon Islands to receive training abroad. The training covers seven sports including athletics, taekwondo, boxing, weightlifting, table tennis, judo, and swimming. The Solomon Islands hope to win as many medals as possible, especially gold medals, at the Pacific Games and the training in China will help these athletes improve their performance.
