Editor's Note:
The exhibition On Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of Ancient Egypt will kick off at Shanghai Museum on Friday, bringing Chinese visitors a feast of some 788 artifacts from different periods of ancient Egypt, from statues of pharaohs, an anthropoid inner coffin, to gold jewelry. This journey through 3,000 years showcases ancient Egypt’s cosmology, sacred monarchy, nobility, artisan skills, literati lifestyle, religious beliefs, and burial customs, encompassing every facet from social systems and daily life to the spiritual realm, lifting the veil on many mysteries.
Over 95 percent of the exhibits will be displayed in Asia for the first time. Co-hosted by the museum and Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities, the anticipated exhibition was the fruit of cooperation between Chinese and Egyptian governments and museum institutions. (Photos: Chen Xia/GT)
