Editor's Note:
The Cervantes Institute launched a branch in Shanghai on Tuesday, after it set up the first Chinese one in Beijing in 2006. Covering an area of 1,200 square meters in downtown Shanghai, the new Cervantes Institute is located within the former Cervantes Library in Shanghai, which offers more than 12,000 books in Spanish, Catalan, Galician and Basque languages.
The Cervantes Institute is a public institution created by the Spanish government in 1991 to globally promote the teaching, study and use of the Spanish language and pan-Hispanic culture. It is estimated that some 60,000 Chinese students are currently studying Spanish in schools, according to the Institute. (Photos: Chen Xia/GT)
