Editor's Note:
Archaeological excavation work is underway on December 6, 2024, at the Wenyuan Pavilion site, located in the northeastern part of Yuanmingyuan, also known as the Old Summer Palace, in Beijing. The Wenyuan Pavilion, completed in the 40th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1775), served as a garden landscape centered around an imperial library. Excavations, which began in August 2024, have revealed that the site is relatively well-preserved. Discoveries at the site showcase the meticulous craftsmanship and dedication of ancient builders, representing the pinnacle of traditional Chinese garden construction. They also reflect the enduring importance placed on cultural and educational heritage throughout Chinese history. (Photos: Li Hao/GT)
