As the weather went from freezing cold to boiling hot faster than we could say 'spring,' Beijing's pavements became filled with not just cafés, but people fast asleep.

It is hardly surprising really. According to TCM theory, sudden changes in the temperature will bring about changes to the function of the body. And in general hot weather just makes people feel sleepy.

People chose all different places to fall asleep. One sighting actually featured someone setting up their very own bed in Sanlitun, which seemed inventive. Here are other great scenes from the start of the summer.

Above: without air conditioning, cars are pretty stuffy. No surprise then that this guy is exhausted.
Right: tired or just taking advantage of air conditioning and a comfy sofa? A typical scene in IKEA. 1

Main: a moment in the shade. It is no surprise that this man is exhausted after cycling people around in the heat.
