HK smuggler caught wearing 94 iPhones

The man caught at the Huanggang customs station in Shenzhen on Sunday wears an assortment of iPhone6 and iPhone 5s handsets underneath his clothes.



Customs officials in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province recently caught a Hong Kong man attempting to smuggle 94 iPhones taped to his body.

The unnamed man was intercepted at the Huanggang customs station on Sunday wearing a red T-shirt, black trousers and an assortment of iPhone6 and iPhone 5s handsets underneath his clothes. 

The cell phones are valued at around 300,000 yuan ($48,000), media reported.

Customs officers said they became suspicious when they spotted the suspect walking with difficulty and intentionally avoiding eye contact.

A quick search revealed iPhones fixed to his chest with yellow tape.

Officers said the suspect has a record of smuggling items from Hong Kong to the mainland.

The case has been handed to the local public security department.
