Chinese security and inspection solution and service supplier Nuctech Co Ltd announced to open new offices in Rotterdam and Amsterdam on December 12. Nuctech provides technology services with independent intellectual property.
The announcement was made by Dr. Chen Zhiqiang, the president and chairman of Nuctech, at the 20th anniversary ceremony of the company's founding in Rotterdam, which hosted peers and professionals from the customs border inspection industry from almost 20 countries.
Chen also expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands, the Rotterdam Municipal government, the Amsterdam Municipal government and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency for their support and collaboration.
Nuctech has become a world-leading company in the security screening industry. With almost 4,000 employees, the company has set up a number of manufacturing bases over the world, outputting more than 200 product portfolios.
Its security equipment and solutions have been installed in more than 150 countries and regions worldwide, including more than 50 countries along the Belt and Road (B&R) initiative routes, and cover customs, civil aviation, railway, postal logistics, border security and other areas to help fight terrorism, maintain security and protect people's lives and property, as noted at the opening ceremony.
In May, Nuctech's branch in Warsaw was awarded the Most Dynamic and Innovative Enterprise in Poland. This is not merely an acknowledgement to its subsidiary's business but also a recognition of its investment in Europe.
Currently, Nuctech takes full advantage of its core competitiveness in technological innovation and owns independent intellectual property rights in all core technologies, including computed tomography scans, X-Ray radiography, analysis detection of trace explosives and drugs, and monitoring and recognition of radioactive materials.
Nuctech derived from China's Tsinghua University and was founded in 1997.
Through its strategic partnership with Tsinghua University for effective operation in areas of industrial application, studies and research, as well as collaboration with research institutes, Nuctech can continuously achieve technical innovation. For instance, a series of technologies and new products have been developed, filling in the international gap and taking its core technology to the world-leading level.
At the opening ceremony for the new offices, Global Times reporter Zhang Liang interviewed Dr. Chen to discuss the company's strategy in the European market.
"As an entrant into Europe, we selected the Netherlands based on three main goals: to establish our innovation and research centers in Europe; to create a sales platform in Europe; and to build up an after-sales service and support platform," Chen said.
In Europe, more than 90 percent of countries are utilizing security screening equipment produced by Nuctech. Chen hopes to provide better and localized services for clients.
"As the world's industry leader, Nuctech is ranked as the third player in the global market for explosives, weapons and contraband (EWC) detection equipment. We are working on delivering better services and solutions," Chen continued. "One of the key factors is how we can offer efficient after-sales services and support. Therefore, we selected Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Schiphol International Airport as new bases for our business to achieve the three strategic goals on each platform," Chen noted.
"Our products now cover security areas along borders, at customs and in civil aviation, transportation and public security in 150 countries across the world. We have fully covered the Asian market," Chen added.
The Netherlands is a country that is full of impetus for innovation. "We would like to work on collaboration with universities, research institutes and private enterprises here by all means. In our European research centers, we will leverage local innovation experiences and localized research and development. Meanwhile, we can combine our worldwide research bases and centers with experience gained from 'made in China' to provide world class, high-level technological services," Chen elaborated.
"We will also integrate European resources into our research and development bases through Dutch design and manufacturing techniques to cover services in both border security inspection and next generation aviation security inspection. While we achieve growth for our company in the global market, we would also make China and the world more secure," Chen stressed.
In 2016, just-upgraded Nuctech equipment helped the Australian Border Security seize 254 kilograms of cocaine and 104 kilograms of methamphetamine, worth a combined total of $186 million.
China's innovative high-tech has brought tangible benefits to countries along the B&R routes, especially in developing countries, Xinhua reported.
