China's small but strong New Zealand expat community had a wonderful evening Friday in downtown Shanghai's Xintiandi, otherwise known as New Zealand Central, with the country's Secondary Students' Choir visiting for a performance.
The young choir is internationally recognized and shares an infectious joy for music making. The choir has 60 members, nationally auditioned from schools all over New Zealand. They gather for one week of every school holidays to rehearse and perform, including national events such as the recent national ANZAC commemorations.
At the end of every two-year cycle, the choir represents New Zealand at international festivals and competitions. This tour covers Hong Kong and Shanghai.
