After a 14-year absence, classic musical
Chicago has returned to the stage of the Tianqiao Performing Art Center in Beijing on Thursday. The musical will end its run at the center on November 18.
Currently touring China, the musical has received a warm welcome in Beijing, where it set a record by selling 1 million yuan ($145,000) in tickets in its first day of sales.
So far the musical has toured to Chongqing, Dongguan, Nanjing and Wuhan.
"It seems that Beijing audiences are showing more interest in original musicals.
Chicago's new sales record proves this. We are happy to see that more and more people coming to appreciate this musical," said Yu Tingting, a representative from the musical's Chinese promoter.
