A 70 million yuan ($10.3 million) wall of cash - stacked as tall as a person - was handed out to company workers as year-end bonuses in Northwest China's Gansu Province recently. 

Many companies in China offer yearly bonuses just prior to Chinese New Year which is on February 5 this year.

At the annual staff meeting at Fangda Carbon New Material Technology Co. the wall of cash was dismantled and put into large red packets and given to the workers. 

Worker on average received 30 thousand yuan. Retired workers received more and even the parents of workers who are over 60 years old received a red packet from the company, according to a China News report.

Many of the smiling, happy workers showed off their year-end bonus to others and took selfies and group photo with the stack of cash. 

Many neitizens showed more than a little envy, while others said it was an old publicity stunt that attempts to show a generous company.  "Why use a wall of cash? This has been done before," wrote Xa_lzx. 

"Is the company hiring?" was a common phrase posted on Weibo.
