Traffic police departments in China are showing they have a sense of humor by adopting a traffic safety tip from the blockbuster sci-fi movie The Wandering Earth

In multiple scenes in the movie, a robotic voice tells the driver of a giant truck that "Beijing No.3 transportation division reminds you that routes are countless but safety is foremost. Unregulated driving will cause loved ones to end up in tears."

In the scene, designed for comic relief, the main character one accidently slams his truck into another parked nearby.

The official Weibo account of the Beijing traffic police department quoted the movie on Saturday, and many traffic police departments in other cities followed suit on their Weibo accounts.

The movie's traffic safety tip has also appeared on highway billboards and was even automatically forwarded to motorists' mobile phones by traffic police departments around the country.

One netizen posted an ironic pie chart rating the three most memorable parts of the movie - the storyline, special effects and the traffic safety tip - with the latter occupying the entire chart.

An online ticket-tracking site shows The Wandering Earth's total box office returns reached 2.4 billion yuan ($360 million) as of Tuesday.
