The National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) kicked off a new exhibition to celebrate renowned late artist Wu Guanzhong's 100th birthday on Thursday.

The ongoing An Unbroken Line exhibition features a total of 58 works from the veteran painter, mostly from the museum's own collection, divided into three sections: Base of Life, Inspiration of Nature and Heart of Innocence.

Born in 1919 in East China's Jiangsu Province, Wu studied with grandmasters in China such as Lin Fengmian and Pan Tianshou as well as studied oil painting in France starting in 1947.

The curator of NAMOC, Wu Weishan noted in the preface that Wu Guanzhong put forward the slogan "Brush and Ink Equate Nothing" at a time when painters in China were substituting imitation and technique for spiritual pursuit and replacing innovation by stubbornly following the painting style of certain schools.

NAMOC has previously hosted four exhibitions detailing the work of Wu, who passed away in 2010.

The exhibition will run until May 5.
