The Syrian army foiled an attack by the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front in the northern countryside of Hama province in central Syria on Saturday.
A military source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that the attack by the Nusra Front focused on the towns of Jabriyeh and Tal Hawash, which are controlled by the army.
The rebels launched their attack from the town of Sahriyeh and Jabal Shahshabo, which are controlled by the Nusra Front.
These areas of the countryside of Hama, Idlib and the Aleppo countryside are included in a de-escalation zones' deal established in September 2018 by Russia and Turkey.
The deal didn't materialize as battles have escalated since late last month.
