Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) will meet members of the public at the first community dialogue session that will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai, Hong Kong on Thursday.

As of Monday noon 20,237 people have filed applications to participate in the dialogue, of which 150 are expected to be selected, according to the SAR government.

Lam said at a meeting on Tuesday that she was very grateful to the more than 20,000 people who signed up and the large number provides great encouragement.

Lam also stated that she will listen to the opinions from the participating resident with sincerity and humility in the hope of finding a way out of the chaos in Hong Kong.

The first dialogue will be completely open to any topic and any issue, said Lam, adding that subsequent dialogues will focus on specific topics so that the government can better deal with them.

Lam said the public should not expect immediate and effective results from the first dialogue session.

"No matter how difficult it gets, we will continue to hold such community dialogues," said Lam.

Lam said that the dialogues will be held in various communities and on the internet and will inform the Hong Kong government's future work.
