Beijing embraced its first snow of the year on Sunday evening. The snow ignited the childlike innocence of a lot of Chinese netizens, who posted photos and videos of themselves playing in the snow.

One video shows a group drawing cartoon characters such as Japan's feline robot from the future Doraemon and the US cat and mouse team Tom and Jerry. Other snow sculptures include two giant pandas hugging each other.

Some netizens lamented that they would not be able to see the famous Forbidden City covered with snow as it is closed on Mondays.

"Is it a coincidence that both this snow and the last snow in December happened on a Sunday night, so we could not visit the Palace Museum on Monday?" one netizen joked on Sina Weibo.
