On the approval of President Xi Jinping, who is also the Chairman of the Communist Party of China's Central Military Commission, Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) sends an additional 2,600 medical personnel to support the fight against the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan.

The first group of 1,400 people have arrived in Wuhan, Hubei Province on Thursday, and medical treatment is set to begin as soon as possible.

The PLA medical mission covers two hospitals in the city and will operate under the mode of Huoshenshan Hospital, which is the first makeshift hospital established in early February during the epidemic.

The 2,600 PLA medical personnel are being transferred from several medical institutes from the navy, air force, rocket force, strategic support force, joint logistics support force and armed police force.

As of press time, the PLA had dispatched three batches of more than 4,000 medical personnel to Wuhan since the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak.
