Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, has reported that some samples taken from the outer packaging of imported shrimp from Ecuador have tested positive for novel coronavirus in a seafood market, the Shaanxi health authority said on Thursday.

The frozen seafood was found in Fangxin market and local authorities have arranged for people working there to receive nucleic acids tests and undergo quarantine.

No people were found to have been infected, the Global Times learned when calling the hotline for COVID-19 information set up by the Xi'an government.

As of press time, nine provinces in China have reported positive tests of COVID-19 on imported frozen food, with six provinces finding positive samples from shrimp imported from Ecuador, while Shenzhen found coronavirus on frozen chicken wings imported from Brazil.
