China and Russia shoulder the responsibility of safeguarding world peace and security, and carrying on the mission to help push forward the development of humankind, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday, commenting on China and Russia's commemoration on Thursday of the 75 years of the end of the World War II.

The great victory 75 years ago was of special significance to China and Russia, as well as to human history, which laid the foundation for the reconstruction of the postwar international order, Hua Chunying, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, told a press conference on Thursday.

As major battlefields in the World Anti-Fascist War and permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and Russia shoulder the responsibility of safeguarding world peace and security, while pushing forward the development of humankind, Hua noted. Along with Russia and other countries, China will firmly uphold the victory legacy of the WWII, safeguard the position of the UN and multilateralism, and help build a community with a shared future for mankind.

China and Russia, two countries that fought hard during the WWII, jointly commemorated the 75th anniversary of the end of that war on Thursday. Also, four ambassadors from China and Russia published articles supporting the postwar international order, even as the US constantly stirs conflicts in the Asia-Pacific region.

The UN-centered international order, in addition to international laws, plays an irreplaceable role in the peaceful and progressive development of mankind, Hua said.
