South Korea will hand over to China another batch of remains of Chinese People's Volunteers' (CPV) Army martyrs and related relics in the Korean War on Sunday, in what will be the seventh such handover since 2014.

A joint encoffining ceremony will be held in South Korea on September 26 before the Sunday handover.  

Analysts said the move shows South Korea's great kindness to China, which is going through a difficult time from the deadly COVID-19 and US suppression in technology, education and military. 

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the CPV's participation in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953). 

Lü Chao, a research fellow at the Liaoning Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times on Wednesday that the move, coming before such a special timing, would also help to revive Chinese people's courage to unite and fight aggressors and safeguard the country. 

On October 19, 1950, as requested by North Korea, the Chinese People's Volunteers crossed the Yalu River, the border between China and North Korea, to battle the US-led UN forces in North Korea. Chinese forces drove the US back to the 38th Parallel at the cost of at least 190,000 Chinese lives. 

China and South Korea have successfully completed the handover of the remains of 599 CPV martyrs for six consecutive years from 2014 to 2019, the Beijing Youth Daily reported. 

Normally, the remains would be placed in a mausoleum of the Korean War Martyrs in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning Province. A grand ceremony was held every time, Lü said.  

South Korea's move is in contrast to the US, which was South Korea's ally in the Korean War, as the former has transformed from an enemy to a friend of China, but the US still upholds hegemony and suppresses China, Lü said, noting that this clearly shows that the US hegemony would not win much support even from countries that are its ally.  

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, China and South Korea have been in constant communication and cooperation in epidemic prevention and related areas, ensuring that the handover can be carried out smoothly despite the impact of the epidemic and other difficulties, the report said. 

South Korea will continue to hand over the remains of martyrs of the CPV excavated in South Korea to China, and  the two countries will further strengthen cooperation on the handover of CPV remains.

Given the upcoming memorial day for the Korean War, Chinese analysts expect more activities in China as well as on the Korean Peninsula.

On Saturday, a memorial hall commemorating the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953) reopened in Northeast China's Liaoning Province after being renovated and expanded.
