Huawei supervisors graded as the poorest performing 10 percent will be compulsorily eliminated every year, Ren Zhengfei, founder and CEO of the Chinese tech giant said, noting that it is only through this approach that "new blood" can circulate within the firm.
Ren said positions in Huawei will be divided into three categories: specialized staff, experts, and management. The specialized staff category, also labelled as professional post, will have no age limit, as with experience employees can work until 50-60 years old. Experts, the second category, must quickly adapt to social changes and will fall behind if they fail to keep up with the changing times, and Huawei does not have a containment team for those who fall behind.
The third category is the administrative management team. Supervisors graded in the bottom 10 percent each year will be eliminated compulsorily - even if they are all excellent, Ren said.
The number of new graduates to be recruited next year will expand to at least 8,000, the businessman said, while noting that "those who come in must be outstanding."
The next two years will be the most critical and also the most difficult years for Huawei to seek survival and explore further development, Ren said, noting that the company will not only maintain its normal budget in research and development, but will also newly invest billions of dollars into key technology breakthroughs.
No matter whether for survival, or development, the key is in talent, Ren said, as he has stressed several times before, noting that the firm will absorb talent from both home and abroad.
