Alongside the busy exhibitions with high technologies, smart machines, fancy luxury brands and delicious foods, the 3rd China International Import Expo (CIIE) also provides its attendees with a tender and more elegant side.

From Wednesday right through until November 10, the Shanghai Concert Hall will present seven concerts — one for each day of the week — to create a relaxing environment for attendees of the event.

Each concert will be presented with a different theme, and renowned Chinese musicians will gather to present a "history" of the development of Chinese music.

For example, a quartet from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music on Thursday will present the string version of Chinese love legend The Butterfly Lovers and Chinese national opera The White-Haired Girl with two violins, one viola and one cello.

Seven musicians from the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra will also present some folk music works from November 8 to 9 using a ruan — a traditional Chinese stringed instrument, which is plucked.

In addition to the concerts, there will be an exhibition of a different theme every day to illustrate the history of Chinese music and musical instruments, the creation of China's national anthem, and an overview of the development of modern music in Shanghai.
