Shanghai's health system has established a three-layered medical security system with closed-loop management and completely traceable chain for the upcoming 3rd China International Import Expo (CIIE), Shanghai's health authority introduced on Tuesday.

Alongside five medical stations set up inside the National Exhibition andConvention Center (NECC), where the expo will be held, the enhanced version of the "medical security chain" for the CIIE features 26 temporary observation spots inside and outside the venue, 33 designated hospitals across the city and 12 ambulances on standby for transferring patients, forming a three-layered defense that will guarantee medical services for the CIIE and cover not only the expo venue but also the entire city.

Five COVID-19 prevention and control measures — including closed-loop management, a completely traceable chain, all-member nucleic acid testing, inspection and admission, and thorough environment disinfection — will be strictly implemented in six key areas such as the entrance to the city, accommodation areas and expo venues.

In addition, cutting-edge technologies including makeshift CT facilities and biosafety level-II plus mobile nucleic acid testing laboratories will also be available to support the CIIE.

In regards to event personnel, a special work force made up of staff members from the local health commission, disease control and prevention center, first aid department and the NECC have been set up to look after the CIIE for the first time.

Apart from doctors and nurses, each of the five medical stations will also have public health workers, medical volunteers and volunteering service providers on call.

More than 300 medical workers have also been dispatched to 26 temporary observation spots.

A total of 33 designated hospitals have set up 24-hour special clinics, wards, operating rooms and ICUs for the CIIE.

The health commission has also organized professional institutes to continue monitoring the public's health in public places, indoor air and drinking water qualities.
