The world is extremely concerned about tensions between the US and China, and most people from 16 countries expect China to resist US hegemony as their impression of the US continues to deteriorate, according to the latest survey from the Global Times poll center.

The poll gathered 16,431 responses from 16 countries, including China, the US, the UK, France, Russia, Spain, South Korea, Japan, India and South Africa from October 23 and 30. This is the 9th annual global public opinion survey the poll center has conducted..

It focuses on the international image of China and the US and relations between the two countries. It also casts light on the global responsibilities that a powerful country should shoulder. 

Data from the 16 countries showed that nearly 60 percent of respondents believe the international image of the US has deteriorated, up from 55.5 percent in 2019. Among them, 44.5 percent said their country's international image is "getting worse."

On the contrary, results showed that 60 percent of respondents believe China's international influence has "gradually risen" in recent years.

About two-thirds of Chinese respondents were particularly concerned about the US' tense relationship with China, and the US' epidemic prevention and control work. Respondents in 14 countries were more concerned about US tensions with China and the racial discrimination problem in the US.

There are obvious negative and helpless attitudes toward US' global hegemony among respondents in many countries. Respondents from China show a high level of anger than in the rest of the world, while those in South Korea complained the most. Respondents from France and Germany said they "have no choice but to accept," while most Indian respondents said they were pleased and very supportive of US hegemony. 

Respondents from 13 countries, except Indonesia, were relatively more likely to expect China to increase its resistance to the US.
