Iran's President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday urged the United States to "immediately" end economic pressures against Iran paving the way for negotiations.
"The new U.S. administration must immediately halt the economic terrorism operation. Once it does so, there will be a path forward. Then, we can negotiate," Rouhani was quoted as saying by Press TV.
Iran still wants the 2015 nuclear deal, commonly known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), to remain strong, but its survival hinges on the U.S. abandonment of its economic pressures, he said.
"We will talk within the framework of the JCPOA, not about the JCPOA," Rouhani said. "It is not possible to add two more articles (to the present pact)."
Washington and its European allies have called for an expanded nuclear deal with Tehran which the latter has vehemently rejected.
Iran has also dismissed the inclusion of other parties in possible negotiations between Iran and other members of the JCPOA.
