A hot pot restaurant in Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, has become a hit among local residents, especially women, as all the waiters are half-naked, muscle-bound men. The special "service" also sparked heated discussions in online communities.
Unlike other more "conservative" restaurants, the hot pot restaurant hired a group of macho men as waiters who provide services including serving tables, posing for group photos, and even accompanying customers for meals, all while wearing nothing but black aprons and trousers.
The restaurant, according to media reports, has attracted many young female customers.
The owner revealed that after he started offering these services in late 2020, the turnover rate increased dramatically with the number of female customers in particular seeing a significant increase.
Many netizens said on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo that the waiters' bodies were comparable to those of models, and praised the restaurant for its unique marketing scheme.
However, others felt that the half-naked look was indelicate, saying the restaurant should focus on improving the quality of its food rather than using eye-candy to woo customers.
