go in debt/ 负债/ (fù zhài)

A: Did you know young people going in debt has become a trending topic online?

B: Yes, but I'm not surprised, because this is a common phenomenon.

(wǒ zhīdào,dàn wǒ bìnɡbù juédé jīnɡyà, yīnwéi zhèzhǒnɡ xiànxiànɡ shífēn pǔbiàn.)

A: Yeah, a lot of friends close to me have gone into debt in order to achieve their life goals. A lot have also taken out loans.

(shìā, wǒ shēnbiān hǎoduō pénɡyǒu dōu wéile shíxiàn zìjǐ de rénshēnɡ mùbiāo ér fùzhai, yěyǒu hěnduō dàikuǎn de.)

B: Really? Then have you seen people who have spent too much and gone into debt in order to satisfy their vanity? For example, taking a loan to buy luxury sneakers or people who buy a luxury car to show off.

(shìma, nànǐ jiànɡuò wéile mǎnzú xūrónɡxīn, ɡuòdù xiāofèi ér fùzhai de rénma?lìrú, jièkuǎn mǎi shēchǐ qiúxié, huòzhě mǎi háochē xuànyào de rén.)

A: Someone once said, a suitable level of debt can give you more impetus to do things, but going into debt for vanity probably isn't worth the loss. I think the saying makes sense.

(cénɡjīnɡ yǒurén shuō, shìdānɡ fùzhai nénɡ rànɡrén ɡènɡyǒu dònɡlì, dànshì wéile xūrónɡxīn fùzhai kěnénɡ huì débùchánɡshī.wǒ juédé zhème shuō quèshí hǎoxiànɡ tǐnɡyǒu dàolǐ de.)
