CPC to award highest honor ‘July 1 Medal’ for first time at 100th founding anniversary

The Communist Party of China (CPC) will award the "July 1 Medal", the highest honor of the CPC, for the first time to distinguished Party members on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, according to a press conference on the anniversary on Tuesday. 

The medal will be awarded in the name of the CPC Central Committee to those members who have made outstanding contributions to the Party in China's revolutions, reforms and construction, poverty eradication and the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, said Fu Xingguo, deputy head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, at the conference.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will present the medals, according to the press conference. 

The awards will be given at a grand commendation convention before July 1, the 100th birthday of the Party, he said, noting that the award nomination and selection work is progressing in accordance with plans.

The awards and commendation aim to display the model and advanced spirit of exemplary merit and the fruitful achievements made by CPC organizations and its members, said a circular issued by the General Office of CPC Central Committee. 

The "July 1 Medal" will be the fifth in China's highest order of honor system, in addition to the "Medal of the Republic," the "August 1st Medal," the "Friendship Medal" and the national titles of honor that were previously conferred. 

During the 100th anniversary celebration, other outstanding Party members, Party affairs workers, community-level Party organizations and senior Party members who have been members for 50 years will also be awarded
