FAW-Volkswagen has launched an initiative of promoting carbon emissions peaking and carbon neutrality in Beijing, in order to fulfil the company's social responsibility to realize green development.

FAW-Volkswagen China Environmental Protection Foundation 2nd "Automotive Eco-friendly Innovation Project" was held on March 24, following the national strategy to attain carbon neutrality by 2060, and seeking green development to echo the growing trend of industry and society.

"Green development to drive system construction has been the long-term business philosophy of FAW-Volkswagen," said Pan Zhanfu, a member of the Board of Directors, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co.

Pan noted that FAW-Volkswagen has been engaging in building green factories, adhered to green manufacturing, and continuously improved the environmental management system and launched the MEB platform since company establishment 30 years ago.

"Meanwhile, by constantly improving the green management performance of dealers and supplier partners, it has driven the green upgrading of the entire industry chain," said Pan.

To follow the development trend of the times, FAW-Volkswagen has accelerated electrification and digital transformation. "Our vision is production without negative environmental impact during our complete production cycle," said Andreas Dick, technical vice-president of FAW-Volkswagen.

He stated that part of the company's strategy is not only CO2-neutral production, but also an ecosystem that benefits all company employees and the environment. Andreas believed that MEB is a technical base and backbone of Volkswagen products, and all mainstream pure electric vehicles will be based on the MEB platform.

Since the establishment of FAW-Volkswagen in 1991, the company's development in China has been maintained at an accelerated rate for an extended period of time, and the concept of social responsibility has also taken root with the rapid growth of company's performance.

In December 2014, FAW-Volkswagen launched a comprehensive corporate social responsibility strategy, becoming one of the first auto companies in China to put forward a corporate social responsibility strategy in China.

FAW-Volkswagen unveiled corporate social responsibility strategy 2.0 in January 2020. The 2nd "Automotive Eco-friendly Innovation Project" is a concrete manifestation of the idea of green growth" - which is gathering the strength of industries, and university researchers to build an engine of green development for the automobile industry".
