An entrepreneur in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province, has recently hit the headlines for developing hi-tech jeans that "have the moisturizing effect like facials" or "preserve heat in cold weather," and have become a fad on China's e-commerce platforms, attracting over 10,000 buyers in less than a minute.
Gu Xiang, the "facial jeans" creator, explained in a video circulating on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo that he had been working on the product for a few years, and managed to incorporate collagen into the fiber, allowing his pants to have similar effects as facials.
Gu and his team also developed a type of fiber that could preserve heat for longer hours in cold weather, and remain cool in hot weather, and dubbed them "thermostatic jeans."
The novel concepts have attracted thousands of Chinese buyers eager to try out the new technologies themselves. In December 2020, Gu's pants were picked up by Viya, China's "Queen of Livestream" who is known for her "superpower" for selling products online. Viya sold out over 10,000 pairs of the hi-tech jeans in just 40 seconds.
