China tightens regulations on online pornography and gambling from overseas servers

Chinese search engines and internet browser providers, including Baidu, Sogo, 360 Browser and Huawei Browser, have handled over one million tip-off messages on overseas pornography and gambling in the first quarter of this year.

The move is part of a campaign led by Chinese authorities to ensure a clean cyber environment, targeting pornography and gambling on overseas servers that seriously endanger the physical and mental health of teenagers, according to an announcement from Cyberspace Administration of China.

Eight search engines and browser service providers, including Baidu, sogou, QQ, UC, Cheetah, Oppo, What and Quaker, handled more than 120,000 pieces of relevant reporting from netizens.

Xiaomi browser, 360 browser, Vivo browser and Huawei browser also took part in the campaign, with more than 230,000 reports resolved, according to the announcement.
