Former public security official from Fujian sentenced to 9 years in jail for attempted rape

A former public security official from Changting county in East China's Fujian Province was sentenced to nine years in prison on Thursday for committing the crimes of attempted rape and coercive indecency against a female in November, 2020.

According to a notification released by the Fujian Province Political and Legal Affairs Commission on Thursday, the defendant named Zou Binsheng was a former deputy director of a local police station in the county. Another suspect named in the notification, Xie Jiacheng, who also is accused of committing rape in a separate incident on February 8, is still under trial.

According to previous media reports, the two policemen violated relevant regulations, entered entertainment venues, adopted violent means after they got drunk, and committed their crimes.

On November 20, 2020, Zou violated related public security prohibitions and got drunk. He arrived at a local KTV and resorted to violent means to commit rape against a female waitress.

On February 8, 2021, Xie from the local immigration control brigade, is suspected of committing rape against a woman he met in a local bar where he attended a birthday celebration for his friend.

Both the suspects were caught and detained after their victims reported the two incidents to the local police.

According to the Regulations of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Disciplinary Punishment and the Regulation of the CPC on Accountability, the Changting County Public Security Bureau Party Committee was held accountable for its weak supervision and management on the team.

Three directors or secretaries of the Party branch from the Changting county public security bureau, the police station and immigration control brigade were removed from their offices and another 14 were punished.
