China Post has launched a charter flight service between Zhengzhou, Central China's Henan Province and the US on Sunday, as the inland city plays a more important role as an international aviation hub in China.

A Boeing 747 charter plane loaded with 6,830 bags of international mail took off from Zhengzhou heading for John F. Kennedy International Airport, in New York on Sunday to speed up the international mail delivery between China and US via Zhengzhou port.

The charter flight is a temporary measure for China Post to alleviate the difficulties of international air mail delivery hindered by the global epidemic.

To lift the capacity, China Post Zhengzhou branch has purchased five charter flights to deliver mail from key ports to the US. Based on the current capacity the charter mail service is able to dispatch 400 tons of mail by the end of June.

In recent years, port performance in Henan Province has expanded rapidly.

As of 2020, the passenger and freight volume of Zhengzhou airport had maintained first in Central China area for four consecutive years.

The overall import and export mail business volume of Zhengzhou exceeded 20,000 tons in 2020, with a year-on-year growth of 54 percent, ranking the fourth place in China.

In 2020, Zhengzhou together with Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen accounted for 90 percent of the national international freight volume.
