The China Photovoltaic Industry Association said that the prices of key raw materials used by the solar photovoltaic and electronics industry have been drastically increasing in the past three months, weighing heavily on the sector. The association called for tighter government regulation of the prices.
According to a statement released by the association on Thursday, the price of key material poly silicon has risen by 2.5 times compared to the end of last year. Photovoltaic companies are faced with decreasing or suspending production, and there have been defaults on factories’ orders.
The association called for companies to abide by laws and regulation, and to refrain from stockpiling, price gouging and other forms of speculation.
“Photovoltaic companies should resist vicious competition in the sales of batteries, and help to lower the prices of polysilicon materials to a normal range,” the statement said.
The association also suggested that government regulators should clarify relevant regulations concerning the application of photovoltaic power in the existing grid.
