Qi Yumin, former chairman of China's Huachen Automotive Group, the parent of Brilliance Automotive Holdings, which is also the Chinese joint venture partner of BMW, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and is under an investigation for a suspected series violations relating to internal code of discipline and laws, according to Northeast China's Liaoning provincial discipline inspection commission on Tuesday.
Qi should be responsible for Brilliance Auto reporting inflated profits and abuses of powers leading to serious losses in the state-owned companies and heavy loss in the national interest.
Qi had compromised his ideal and beliefs, read a statement post on the website of the Liaoning provincial discipline inspection commission on Tuesday, noting that Qi had worked against the authorities when facing audit.
Qi had received gifts that may affect the impartial performance of official duties and illegally used official vehicles, while he had violated rules when making decisions and concealed personal matters, according to the statement.
Qi also failed to truthfully explain matters during audit and took advantage of his position to corruptly provide help to others during the process of cadre selection and appointment, engaged in illegal profiteering, failed to guide his family members and embezzled public funds for profit-making activities.
Qi has been expelled from the Party, and stripped of all previous entitlements according to regulations, his illegal gains have been confiscated, and his case was transferred to prosecution department for review and further action in accordance with the law.
Huachen Automotive Group formally entered into bankruptcy restructuring in November 2020.
