The current status of the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant in Taishan, South China's Guangdong Province meets technical specification requirements, and no abnormal radioactive indicators have been recorded, said the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, in response to a report warning an "imminent radiological threat."

The US government was assessing a report of a leak at the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant by Framatome, a subsidiary of French energy giant Électricité de France (EDF). The Taishan plant is a joint venture between EDF and China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN).

"China's nuclear power plants have maintained a good operating record and no incidents affecting the environment or public health have occurred," Zhao Lijian, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said during a press briefing on Tuesday.

China attaches great importance to nuclear safety and has established a nuclear safety regulatory system that is in line with international standards and matches China's national conditions. At the same time, the National Nuclear Safety Administration cooperates closely with the nuclear safety regulatory authorities belonging to other countries and maintains communication via existing multilateral mechanisms such as the Convention on Nuclear Safety of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said Zhao.

Since entering commercial operation, the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant has operated the reactors strictly in compliance with business license documents and technical procedures, CGN said in a statement on Sunday.

Unit 1 of Taishan Nuclear Power Plant is currently operating at full power. The overhaul of Unit 2 of Taishan Nuclear Power Plant has been completed as planned, and it was successfully connected to the grid on Thursday. This is the first overhaul of unit 2 since coming online. The safety, quality and construction period of the overhaul have all satisfactorily achieved established benchmarks, read the statement.
