Many Chinese have fond memories of growing up watching the works of famed Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki. Now a new exhibition at Beijing's Today Art Museum seeks to ignite their nostalgia for the worlds created by the beloved animator.
The Hayao Miyazaki &
Ghibli World exhibition takes visitors on an in-depth tour that reveals how Studio Ghibli created fantastic animated classics like
My Neighbor Totoro,
Spirited Away,
Princess Mononoke and
Howl's Moving Castle.
Nearly 300 scripts and drafts are on display.
In a video address at the opening of the exhibition on Friday, co-founder of Studio Ghibli Toshio Suzuki said it was "a wonderful thing" to showcase the studio's animated works in China.
Also on display at the exhibition are some installation works that turn scenes from these fantastic worlds, such as the bus scene from
My Neighbor Totoro, into reality.
The exhibition is scheduled to run until October 10.
