A new musical about the lives of four women debuted at Beijing's Poly Theater on Saturday night.

Supported by China Literature and Art Foundation and the Beijing Culture and Arts Fund, Beijing Story kicks off its story with an appointment that the four made 30 years ago.

Guo Zhen, the show's director, said that it was a challenge to reveal the story of a group of people in just 90 minutes.

For the stage designs, various landmark buildings in Beijing like The Bird's Nest, the Temple of Heaven and a hutong bar all appear in the show, which was written by scriptwriter Li Yanan.

The musical is set to run until Tuesday.
