With the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) one week away, Tiananmen Square in Beijing, where the celebrations are expected to be held on July 1, is scheduled to be closed to the public from June 23 due to construction for the celebration activities, and will reopen on July 2 morning according to the actual situation, Beijing authorities announced on Tuesday.
In accordance with the overall arrangements for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, from May 25 until the early morning of July 1, construction work and preparation for the celebration is being carried out on the square and surrounding areas. During the construction, in order to avoid inconvenience and ensure the safety of tourists and construction work, the relevant areas will be enclosed.
From June 23 to July 1, visitors will not be able to enter the square, and the daily flag-raising ceremony on the square is expected to reopen to the public on July 3 or 4. According to the Chinese National Flag Law, the flag-raising ceremony will be held on the square every day, even if the square is closed.
The Chairman Mao Memorial Hall at Tiananmen Square will also be closed during this period.
In addition, the Palace Museum and the National Museum located around the square will be closed to the public starting June 25 and June 26, respectively, and reopen on July 2.
The authorities issued a
notice on the control of racing drones, requiring e-commerce platforms to pull all types of racing drones from their websites until July 15, according to a document obtained by the Global Times on June17.
Beijing also published a notice on June 11 saying that in accordance with relevant laws and regulations and in light of the actual situation, the municipal government has decided to designate nine administrative areas as core restricted areas where the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will be prohibited from June 13 to July 1.
Measures will be taken to prohibit the launch of aerial objects that may affect safety of flight activities organized during the celebration and special activities such as the release of doves and balloons, read the notice.
