Cities across China have been trying various ways to promote COVID-19 vaccination to their residents. In Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, a community attracted the most attention from the public after promising to give electronic bikes as lottery gifts to people who will take the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
A picture that has been widely circulating on Chinese social media shows a banner in the community that says anyone taking the second dose could be raffled for electric bikes.
The administration office of the community confirmed the news and told the media that the lottery gifts aim to encourage more people to get vaccinated.
"Such a shame that I already got my second dose and missed the chance," joked one netizen.
As the vaccination rate in China goes up, communities across the country are in a race to mobilize citizens to get inoculated.
Bikes are not the only gifts, some give away milk, eggs and bottles of water.
As of press time, China has administered more than one billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines, according to the National Health Commission.
