The renovation of an exhibition hall in Moscow, Russia where the 6th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in 1928 was set to be completed on Wednesday, the Chinese company responsible for the project told the Global Times on Tuesday.

The news came just two days ahead of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC on Thursday and one day after Chinese and Russian leaders announced the extension of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation on Monday.

Sitting 40 kilometers away from central Moscow, the three-story exhibition hall is the sole permanent site abroad showcasing the history of the CPC.

Starting on May 11, China Railway Construction Corp began to repair the building with the main work focusing on the reconstruction of its windows, doors, floors, restaurant and lobby.

"We must finish the renovation of the building within a short period…through building such a high-quality 'red education' base abroad, we want to make contributions to promoting China-Russia friendship," the company told the Global Times on Tuesday.

As a token of friendship between China and Russia, the exhibition hall has attracted more than 30,000 visitors since it opened in July 2016, according to media reports.

In 1928, more than 140 CPC representatives broke barriers and traveled to Moscow to hold the 6th National Congress of the CPC at the site with the help of the Russian people and other international organizations, the People's Daily reported, highlighting the historical significance of the exhibition hall.

The exhibition hall has a "symbolic significance" as it is the only exhibition hall abroad where the National Congress of the CPC was held, Wu Enyuan, former head of Russian, East European & Central Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times on Tuesday.

Wu said that Russia may make further efforts to attract more Chinese tourists to visit "red tourism" attractions in the country, at a time when such a theme is flourishing among the Chinese people.
