Students at Inner Mongolia University of Technology witnessed a special graduation ceremony where recent graduates received certificates from, not teachers, but school chefs and security guards, who for the first time got the chance to stand on the graduation ceremony stage.
One of the presenters, a chef surnamed Fan, said he felt proud and excited to present the certificates to the graduates. "We spent a lot of time with the students at the cafeteria. They were just like our own children," he said.
School doctors who worked at the frontline during the COVID-19 epidemic outbreak, were also invited to the stage to present certificates.
A video posted by People's Daily on Saturday showed students giving a big round of applause to the special presenters as they entered the hall.
The video has gained more than one million views as of press time. "The meaning of graduation is not just to get a degree. It also marks an end to a four-year life at the school," read one comment.
