Chinese and Russian construction workers have completed the first large-diameter tunnel boring work by a Chinese company in the European market, when a tunnel boring machine (TBM) dug through a section of the Moscow subway, according to the WeChat account of Chinese infrastructure giant China Railway Construction Corp (CRCC) on Tuesday.

The 2.677-kilometers-long project, completed in Moscow on Monday, is done by a TBM with a diameter of 10.88 meters, the largest TBM exported to the European market by a Chinese company so far.

The TBM was specifically designed and built to endure the harsh Russian winter and is capable of digging at temperatures of -30 C.
