China will provide Indonesia with COVID-19 vaccines and oxygen concentrators to help the country overcome its worsening coronavirus spike, and is willing to work with Indonesia to deepen vaccine research and development cooperation, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday. 

Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous country with about 270 million people, recorded its largest daily infection rise at 54,517 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total tally to over 2.67 million cases. 

To help address the situation, China will provide COVID-19 vaccines, oxygen concentrators, ventilators and other emergency anti-epidemic materials, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Thursday at a routine press conference. 

Chinese enterprises, local governments, and civil organizations including the Red Cross will offer more support to Indonesia, and China will organize for its health experts to share their experiences in vaccination, virus variant studies, and ways to cope with the epidemic, Zhao noted. 

Regarding building a regional vaccine production base in Indonesia, Zhao said China is willing to join hands with Indonesia on the research and development of COVID-19 vaccines, and will work on making vaccines more accessible and affordable for people across the world, especially in developing countries. 

Indonesia has spoken highly of the anti-epidemic cooperation between the two sides, and it appreciates the important role that China has played in Indonesia's anti-virus efforts, Zhao said.

Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Wu Jianghao met with the deputy head of Indonesia's Coordinator for Cooperation with China on Thursday, and the two sides exchanged views on deepening partnership on coping with the epidemic, Zhao said.
