China launches first biotherapy translational medicine clinical research center in Sichuan

China's first biotherapy translational medicine clinical research center officially opened on Sunday at the West China Hospital of Sichuan University in Southwest China's Sichuan Province, which marks the first major scientific infrastructure of biotherapy translational medicine in China.

After the facility is put into operation, it will significantly enhance the independent innovation ability of translational medicine research in China and cut the time for translate biotherapy basic research into clinical application by as much as 50 percent, according to a press release.

It is expected that in the next 5 to10 years, the center will support the transformation of 50 to 100 biotherapeutic clinical product candidates.

The launch of the center will also significantly enhance the competitiveness and influence of China's biotherapy, promote the development of China's biotherapy industry for major diseases, and contribute to the cultivation of high-level talent within the biomedical field.
