Beijing's Shunyi District, where Beijing Capital International Airport is located, will make efforts to prepare for quarantine and reception for returnees from the Tokyo Olympic Games, officials said on Friday.

China's Olympic athletes have begun to return home, and some have already started their 21-day quarantine. Staff members and journalists will also return to China gradually.

The total number of people in the Chinese sports delegation to the Tokyo Olympic Games is 777, including 431 athletes. It is the largest Chinese sports delegation to participate in Olympic Games abroad.

The recent coronavirus outbreak in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu Province has spread to over 20 cities around the country. Since the first confirmed case of the outbreak was detected on July 20 at Nanjing Lukou International Airport, airports and customs nationwide have implemented stricter measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Therefore, the quarantine for the Chinese delegation returning from the Olympics has come into the spotlight.

As of Friday afternoon, 4,515 new positive cases were reported in Tokyo, according to the website of the Bureau of Social Welfare and Public Health of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Meanwhile, a total of 387 positive cases related to the Tokyo Olympic Games were reported by Thursday.

The government of Shunyi District said on Friday during a press conference on epidemic prevention that around 150,000 people living in the 30 communities near the Beijing Capital International Airport are undergoing nucleic acid tests every week.

A total of 5,071 rooms in 22 hotels have been prepared for quarantine and more hotels will be prepared. A prevention and quarantine plan has been made for close contacts, secondary close contacts, inbound personnel, international aircrews and foreign aircrews, Shunyi officials said.
