A worker from a container shipping company in East China's Ningbo-Zhoushan port, which is said to be world's busiest cargo handling port, tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday. The person infected through contact with foreign cargo or personnel.
The 34-year-old patient, surnamed Yu, is under hospital quarantine now. All close contacts of Yu are also under epidemic management; and the sites involved have suspended work and were disinfected.
An epidemiological survey suggested that the patient, who showed no symptoms, may have been infected through contact with foreign cargo or personnel, and further investigation is underway.
Yu works in a container shipping company in Zhoushan port, the world's largest port in terms of annual throughput. Contaminated cargos, especially cold-chain products, coming into China via ports and other channels caused several COVID-19 flare-ups last year. This propelled the government to stipulate employees working in relevant fields subjects to frequent COVID-19 tests.
In May, a worker at an international cargo company in Yantian port, South China's Shenzhen, also tested positive for coronavirus.
It is yet unclear how Yu was infected.
