China's flood prevention authorities have sent work groups to Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, which initiated level-II emergency response for flood on Wednesday as several rivers exceed warning levels.
The main stream of Heilongjiang River from Heihe to Fuyuan exceeded the warning water level by 0.26-2.62 meters at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, said the flood prevention office of the province.
The river section from Jiayin county to Luobei county will see a flood peak from Thursday to Saturday, 1.55 meters to 3 meters above the alert level, according to the forecast of the national and provincial water resources departments.
Another flood peak will occur at the river section from Tongjiang to Fuyuan on August 16-20, surpassing the warning level by 1.7 to 2.33 meters or 0.03 to 0.70 meters above the safety level. The volume of flood is expected to come at a magnitude that occurs about once in every 50 years, said the forecast.
The province raised emergency response from level-III to level-II at 9 am on Wednesday and urged local governments to closely monitor the development of rainfall conditions and make full preparations for flood.
Moreover, China's national flood prevention authorities sent work groups to Heilongjiang Province on Tuesday. Officials noted at a Tuesday meeting that the flood situation in Northeast China remains severe in August.
Starting from Sunday, a round of large-scale heavy rainstorm hit Northeast China on Sunday, with Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces being the most affected.
