Chinese regulator urges intelligent connected auto firms to build and improve data security system

China's industry and information technology regulatory department has urged intelligent connected automobile enterprises to establish and improve auto data security management systems with emphasis on personal information and data protection. 

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued an opinion on Thursday on strengthening the access management of intelligent connected automobile enterprises and products.

The opinion outlined that enterprises should establish and improve automobile data security management systems and fulfill their data security protection obligations according to law, implement data classification management, and strengthen the protection of personal information and important data. 

It also urged relevant companies to step up technical measures aimed at data protection, and implement data security risk assessments, and report data security incident in accordance with laws.

The ministry stressed that personal information and important data collected and generated within the territory of China shall be stored locally in accordance with relevant laws and shall pass the data exit security assessment if it is to provide data abroad.
